Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota is seeking a parish social ministry coordinator for the Worthington area. The primary mission of the deanery coordinator is to assist the Catholic parishes of Rock, Pipestone, Nobles, Murray, Jackson, and Cottonwood Counties in meeting the needs of the poor and vulnerable in their communities and in working for justice. The parish social ministry coordinator fosters collaboration between the parishes and Catholic Charities so that they work interdependently in carrying out this common mission.

Specific duties include:

  1. Giving presentations and instruction on Catholic social teaching in parishes, parish schools, and faith formation programs.
  2. Leading and training parish staff and committees in conducting community needs assessments.
  3. Helping parishes meet the needs of immigrants, the poor, the elderly, the homebound, and the unemployed in their community by developing new programs and ministries, and collaborating with already existing programs, including those of Catholic Charities.
  4. Coordinating opportunities for parishioners to advocate for laws and policies that promote human dignity and the common good.

Qualifications:

  1. Candidate must be a practicing Catholic who is familiar with and firmly committed to Catholic social teaching.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in theology, philosophy, or the human services field strongly preferred.
  3. Deep knowledge of and connection to the Southwest Minnesota area strongly preferred.
  4. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.

We are looking for a person with strong written and oral communication skills, including a proficiency in Microsoft Office products. This position requires a demonstrated capacity for initiative, creativity, organization, and relationship building.

This is a work from home position that requires frequent travel and some evening and weekend work.
