Totus Tuus is a Catholic Summer youth program dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promoting the Catholic Faith through catechesis, evangelization, Christian witness, and Eucharistic worship. The goal of Totus Tuus is to help young people grow in the understanding of, and strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ. Totus Tuus believes it is only by establishing a real and personal relationship with him that we can be led to love of the Father in the Spirit and so be made sharers in the life of the Holy Trinity.
Tuus calls upon college students and seminarians from across the United States to carry this mission to every young person they encounter. These young men and women are hired for their energy, enthusiasm, love of the Faith, commitment to spiritual growth, ability to work with a team and a desire to work with youth.
Serving in the Diocese of Winona-Rochester over the Summer is a great way to learn more about the faith, deepen your relationship with the Lord, and put your faith into action.
Responsibilities Include:
- Evangelization and Catechesis - Teach children (grades 1-6) and youth (grades 7-12) about the Catholic faith through dynamic lessons, prayer, and interactive activities.
- Mentorship and Witness - Serve as a positive Catholic role model, share your personal testimony and foster a love for Christ and His Church through joyful service.
- Team Collaboration - Work with a team of Totus Tuus missionaries, coordinating schedules, responsibilities, and travel logistics throughout the summer.
- Liturgy and Sacraments - Participate actively in daily Mass, Confession, Eucharistic Adoration, the Liturgy of the Hours, and lead the Rosary and other devotional prayers.
- Parish Engagement - Build relationships with priests, parish staff, and families of each parish, ensuring smooth program delivery and fostering a spirit of missionary discipleship.
- Program Leadership - Plan and lead games, skits, and evening youth programs designed to bring joy and enthusiasm to the participants' faith experience.
Qualifications:
- Strong, Confirmed and practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church, committed to daily prayer, the sacraments, and a vibrant personal faith
- Young adult and a high school graduate (18+ years old) who is able to live in community with other missionaries for the duration of the program
- Willingness to travel throughout the Diocese of Winona-Rochester and stay in host homes or provided accommodations in different parishes each week
- Ability to engage with and teach children and teens in an enthusiastic and relatable manner
- Desire to serve the Church and to work in a missionary capacity, with an openness to discerning one’s vocation to religious life or other forms of service in the Church.
- Flexibility, energy, and the physical stamina required to work long days in an active and engaging environment.
- Must complete safe environment training (Virtus) and pass a criminal background check.
Helpful Experience:
- Previous experience working with youth or in a ministry setting
- Knowledge of or familiarity with Totus Tuus, other catechetical programs, or experience in evangelization
- Training in or a willingness to be trained in catechetical instruction, public speaking, and leadership skills
Duration & Compensation:
- Training Period: Ten days starting the final Thursday of May
- Missionary Program: Six to seven teaching weeks (June-July)
- Compensation: $400/teaching week, the diocese will be responsible for withholding taxes Housing and meals are provided throughout the summer. Team members who volunteer to use their car will be reimbursed for each business mile driven (at the current IRS reimbursement rate).
